Flat Battery in Reading?
We can be with you in minutes

Car won’t turn over? Our vans carry booster equipment built for modern electronics, not the crude jump packs some outfits still use. Reading’s our base, so that’s where response is fastest, though we cover the rest of Berkshire too.

A proper booster sends a steady, controlled charge to the starter motor rather than a rough jolt. Once the engine’s running, the alternator does the rest of the work as you drive.

Car Jump Start Service

Batteries We Boost Safely

Not every battery is the same, and treating them all the same way is how mistakes happen.

Standard Lead-Acid

The usual battery in older petrol and diesel cars.

AGM (Stop-Start)

Needs the right voltage, or smart charging systems don't like it.

EFB Batteries

Increasingly common on newer stop-start models around Reading.

Hybrid 12V Auxiliary

Only the small support battery gets touched. Never the main pack.

Electric Vehicle 12V

The high-voltage traction battery stays off limits, full stop.

Motorcycle Batteries

Smaller capacity, so the charge is scaled right down.

Newer cars are unforgiving if you get this wrong. One careless boost and you’re looking at a fried ECU. Every technician carries ECU-safe gear because of it. Hybrid and EV owners often think a dealer is the only option here. Usually it isn’t.

Professional Booster Pack

Handles engines a basic car-to-car jump can't.

Battery Health Test

Tells you if there's real life left in it, or not.

Alternator Charge Check

Rules out a charging fault before you buy a battery you didn't need.

Terminal Clean and Tighten

Loose or corroded terminals cause more "flat batteries" than people realise.

Written Summary

Something you can hand to a garage or your fleet manager.

Sometimes a battery’s just done. When that happens, we tell you outright instead of dressing it up.
Every Vehicle Type

Vehicles We Regularly Assist

Hatchbacks, estates, SUVs, the odd work van. That’s most of what we see on a typical week around Reading. Vans get the heavier duty packs and longer cable runs. Motorcycles get a much lighter touch, current scaled right back.

A boost doesn’t always mean the problem’s solved. Once a battery’s past the five year mark, it can really struggle to bounce back from a deep discharge. Needing a jump twice in two days usually points somewhere else entirely, most often the alternator. We’ll say so if that’s what we find, rather than sending you off with a battery that’ll die again by Thursday.

Know the Warning Signs

Signs Your Car Battery Has Died

Batteries tend to drop hints before they properly give up.
Slow Cranking

The engine hesitates, drags, sometimes just clicks.

Dimming Dashboard

Lights noticeably dim as the key turns.

Weak Headlights

Dull while idling, brighter the second you rev.

Sluggish Electrics

Windows crawling instead of gliding.

Warning Light Stays On

The battery icon that just won't switch off.

Overnight Failures

Runs fine all day, dead again by morning.

Two or three of these at once, and it’s almost certainly the battery. One symptom on its own is trickier. Could easily be the alternator or starter motor instead, which is why our technician actually tests it rather than guessing off a list like this one.
Pricing

Our Simple, Transparent Pricing

Cost’s usually the first thing people ask. Fair enough. You get a set price on the phone before anyone leaves the yard, and that figure doesn’t move for evenings, weekends, or bank holidays.

Set that against a tow and a day without your car, and a roadside boost wins most of the time. One thing to watch: a suspiciously cheap jump start that skips the battery check. Looks like a bargain on the day. Less so when the same fault shows up again by the weekend and you’re paying twice.

Our Promise

Our Commitment to Every Driver

Started this to help drivers stuck at the roadside. Thirteen years on, that’s still what it comes down to. Same standard for every technician, same checked kit in every van. Staying local is what keeps the response times short, not some clever bit of software.

Stay Safe and Wait

We Boost the Battery

The engine started, then a quick check on the charging system.

You Drive Away

Twenty minutes of driving lets the alternator finish the job.

Jumping a Battery Yourself

Doing it with another car? Order matters more than speed here. Red to the flat battery’s positive terminal, then the donor’s positive terminal. Black to the donor’s negative terminal, then somewhere unpainted and metal on your car, well away from the battery itself. Start the donor car, give it a couple of minutes, then try yours. Take the leads off in the reverse order once it’s running.

Get a step wrong and you risk sparks right next to battery gases. Not worth it on a stop-start car. Let a proper booster pack handle those.

Safety First

Staying Safe While You Wait

Every technician carries hi-vis and a warning triangle as standard kit. If where you’ve stopped feels genuinely unsafe, say so on the phone. We’ll bump the priority up.

Search jump start near me and half the results are call centres that have never set foot in Reading. Our technicians are actually based here in Berkshire.

1
Get off the road as far as you safely can.
2
Hazards on straight away.
3
Keep your seatbelt on if waiting inside on a busy road.
4
Use the passenger door if you need to step out.
5
Don’t attempt a jump start solo once it’s dark.
6
Kids and pets are better off staying in the car.
Preventing the Next Flat Battery
  • A twenty minute drive once a week keeps the alternator doing its job.
  • Lights, dashcams, anything electrical, off before you leave the car.
  • Terminals are cleaned yearly once a car’s past five years old.
  • Worth swapping the battery proactively around that five year point, rather than waiting for it to fail.
FAQs

Common Questions About Our Jump Start Service

Depends on location and vehicle type. We'll give you one fixed total for both on the phone, so there's no confusion once it starts.

A jump start restarts a car with a flat battery, usually in minutes. Recovery is different. That's loading a vehicle onto a truck because it can't be driven, after a crash or a serious fault.

A mobile call out for a car that won't fire due to a flat battery. The technician turns up with a booster pack, connects it properly, gets the engine going, and tells you what to do next.

Then something else is probably wrong. We'll explain what we think it is and arrange recovery to a garage if it can't be sorted there and then.
